Write the work, the people, the timetable, and what happens if they stop.
Assess what the company receives: the work, the responsible people, the timetable, the acceptance criteria, continuing support, who owns the outputs, dependence on third parties, and how it ends. Cash investment, strategic advice, and product delivery can sit in one conversation. They are not interchangeable just because the consideration is shares.
Founder Institute’s FAST, version 3, updated July 2026, is a Founder/Advisor Standard Template. It is not a development contract and not a work-for-hire form. FI says no legal assistance is necessary. This site does not repeat that as advice. Check any modified copy against the original at fi.co/fast. A familiar template does not establish fit for a different task, company form, or jurisdiction.
Question. For non-cash studio or adviser equity, which deliverables, review rights, and exit arrangements justify the ownership?
A template. FI recommends at least one month and 8 hours together before discussing FAST, and a three-month cliff. The equity grid is the template’s own schedule, not a rule for a particular company. FI says no legal assistance is necessary. This site does not repeat that as advice. Check any modified copy against the original. It does not replace the company’s lawyer.
